How to Design an Effective Anti-Phishing Policy for Your Business

An anti-phishing policy is a document guide that outlines how an organization can defend itself from targeted cybersecurity attacks. It covers how updates and patches should be applied to network systems and includes information about security controls that are to be implemented. An anti-phishing policy aims to raise awareness about social engineering threats and ensures that data security procedures are followed correctly.

Good anti-phishing policies work towards building a workplace culture that encourages enhanced security compliance and significantly reduces the number of data breaches. If you’re thinking of incorporating an anti-phishing policy for your business, you’re on the right track.

Here’s what you should know about designing an anti-phishing policy in your organization.

A Brief History of Security Awareness

It comes as no surprise that the history of cybersecurity can be traced back to the appearance of the internet. Ever since the worldwide web began to percolate into mainstream society, cybercriminals have been coming up with innovative ways to take advantage of this.

One of the first incidents of hacking took place in the early 1980s when a group of computer hackers known as the 414s (named after their Milwaukee area code) was arrested for breaking into more than 60 computer networks. These include the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

As hacking became increasingly challenging during this period, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was created to punish those who were caught victimizing computer systems. By the late 1980s, a unit called the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) was formed under the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) to investigate the growing volume of hacking on computer networks.

Towards the end of the 1980s, Robert Morris released the historic Internet worm, which caused 10% of the internet to shut down (at the time). It was also possibly the first denial-of-service (DOS) attack ever to appear on the Internet.

Though hacking from the 1980s was, for the most part, carried out by amateurs and hacking students, cybercrime took a more serious turn as the 1990s rolled by. By this time, cybercrime has not only increased in sophistication but notoriety. Hackers started to target government agencies and substantial corporate databases, such as Yahoo!, eBay, and Amazon.

From the late 1990s to the beginning of the millennium, viruses, such as the Melissa and ILOVEYOU, started making the headlines for infecting more than 10 million personal computers and causing the failure of email systems around the world. These threats inevitably led to the development of antivirus technology and the importance of security for computer users.

SPRITE CREATES A REDDIT CAMPAIGN TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE

In the Latin American market, Sprite has strived to be a soda brand that stands for more than just refreshment. Along with agency Santo, through its “I Love You Hater” campaign, it has positioned itself as a company that supports acceptance for all—even those who have shunned or wronged you. Earlier this spring, for example, the brand was behind an unnerving stunt that put an online bully in a room with 100 of his victims.
Now, with agency Santo, Sprite is looking to build on its purposeful message with a new platform, “No Estas Solo,” which translates to “You Are Not Alone.”  The effort relies largely on a series of forums on Reddit, where young people who feel they are alone for a variety of reasons, such as they’re still virgins, they’re flat-chested, they feel like in the wrong body, can express their feelings. Each forum is led by an influencer who has experienced the respective topics. The idea stems from the insight that those in Generation Z feel there are certain subjects they can’t talk to others about.
To determine forum topics, Sprite worked with Google to pinpoint subjects young people frequently searched for. Santo created  an anthem film as well as digital banners to introduce the campaign. Clicking onto specific banners will take users into the related forums.  According to Santo CCO and Partner Maxi Itzkoff, the campaign aims to evolve the sentiment that began in the “I Love You Hater” campaign into a real and ongoing tool to help young people cope with their troubles by interacting with others in an anonymous, open forum.
According to Maria BelĂ©n Colombo, integrated marketing communication senior manager at The Coca-Cola Company,  Sprite's "I Love You Hater" effort has led to positive results. It saw consumers engaging with the brand 20 times more than they had previously, with positive sentiment growing by 80 percent. Earned media was also equivalent to 300% of what the brand originally invested.

iPhones with latest iOS to hacking risk (Apple Bug) - Worldofdump

San Francisco: Apple has reportedly unpatched a bug in the latest iOS update 12.4 that it had fixed in the earlier iOS 12.3 update -- leaving its most up-to-date iPhones vulnerable to hacking risk.

According to Motherboard, security researchers have already exploited the vulnerability in iOS 12.4 and released a public "jailbreak" on open-sourced software development platform Github -- the first free public jailbreak for a fully-updated iPhone that's been released in years.

As a result of the mistake, all iPhones running iOS 12.4 can now be jailbroken and several iPhone users have already tweeted that they are successfully running the "jailbreak".
Jailbreaking an iPhone lets people customize their iOS devices and run unsupported apps.
Apple never allows unsupported apps on its iOS platform, which makes its devices extra secure.

The Cupertino-based tech giant was yet to respond to this.
Apple had fixed this flaw, found by a Google hacker, in the earlier iOS 12.3 version.

"Due to 12.4 being the latest version of iOS currently available and the only one which Apple allows upgrading to, for the next couple of days (till 12.4.1 comes out), all devices of this version are jail breakable and vulnerable to what is effectively a 100+ day exploit,a Jonathan Levin, a security researcher was quoted as saying.

A security research that goes by the name of "Pwn20wnd" has published a jailbreak for iOS 12.4.
"The exploits for the iPhone can sell for millions of dollars, which means that no one has been willing to release jailbreak code publicly because Apple will quickly patch it," said the report.

Security experts have warned to be careful what apps they download with this jailbreak.

Apple recently announced to pay up to $1 million to security researchers for finding flaws and vulnerabilities as part of its bug bounty programme.

The announcement was made by Ivan Krstic, Head of security engineering and architecture at Apple, during the annual Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas.
